New World of Work
Teamwork has never been more important in organizations than it is today. Moreover, 66% of employers around the world are also now redesigning work to accommodate co-located, hybrid, and virtual teamwork. (Microsoft’s Work Trend Index , March 2021)
STUDENT HIRING CHALLENGE # 1: SOFT SKILLS GAP

STUDENT HIRING CHALLENGE # 2: TEAMWORK SKILLS GAP
“Frankly, the typical student’s level of teaming skills is quite poor They simply don’t have the experience. Being a digital native is insufficient.” (Dr. Faisal Nasser Shehab, School of Business, Algonquin College of Applied Arts & Technology, 2019)

INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP
Phil Jarvis is a visionary pioneer in he field of global career education. Among other achievements, Phil invented CHOICES, a computer-based career exploration and planning system that was adopted by over 50,000 secondary and postsecondary schools across North America. He also helped grow and oversee the global partnership of 100,000 schools participating in the Real Games Series across a dozen countries. He has also led several pan-Canadian and international partnerships to help students imagine the future they want to create,

Phil now advocates the adoption of a life-ready curriculum through his website ReImaginED. Phil is the Chief Executive Officer of ReImaginED, which advocates the adoption of a life-ready curriculum. Life-ready curriculum centers around team projects, typically aligned with issues about which students care deeply, like the UN SDGs.. Teams may be students in the same class, or multi-age, involving courses in other grades or subjects, local university or college students, or parents and community members dealing with local issues the project addresses. Teams can also collaborate with teams with similar interests in other regions or countries.,
Phil sees All Star Teams as “an indispensable resource to prepare students for a workplace that will be team-based and distributed.” For more information about this collaboration and Phil’s work, please visit. https://www.philjarvis.ca
BACKGROUND
All Star Teams (AST) was developed through several iterations over the past decade. It started as a hybrid learning resource and was used extensively in Canada and the USA with middle schools, secondary schools, alternative programs, as well as college and university. The resource has proven particularly effective with young people characterized as disadvantaged and at risk. To date about 25,000 students have benefited from a version of All Star Teams as it developed to its current design online.
Particularly affirming is that educators, principals, superintendents, social workers, and psychologists all felt the resource could be as beneficial for professionals as much as for students. The AST co-creators always envisioned an all virtual version of today’s resource. When they started the technology wasn’t robust enough. Today it is. Given the challenging era we live in, it is evident that we will all be working together as teams online and in person for the foreseeable future.
TESTIMONIALS
“This is an excellent way for new project teams to build trust, align on expectations, and facilitate collaboration. To date, we successfully used it on 12 enterprise architecture projects. After helping team members assess preferences (which often mirror strengths) on contributing to project/team success, AST encouraged the most relevant conversations at the right time, enabling common understanding of purpose, agreement on approach and accountability. ‘ Dr. Alexander Zak, Graduate Program in Engineering Leadership, Jacobs School of Engineering and Rady School of Management, University of California, San Diego
“In all my years facilitating workshops of one month, one week, and even one day, I’ve never seen students learn about themselves or come together as a group as quickly and enjoyably as they do with AST. This is an important new tool for college student orientation programs and for staff development too.” J.D. Szezepaniak, Life Skills Coach and Readiness Coordinator , Northern Lakes College
“All Star Teams truly shines in its ability to effectively engage diverse members, fromquiet introvert to gregarious extrovert, in the team building process, using accessible and empowering virtual experiences to accelerate the development of team culture.” Andrew MacLean, Co-Founder HighTechU @ University of Victoria
“Not enough can be said about AST’s usefulness in helping antisocial youth to develop crucial life skills like empathy and collaboration. It brings out the best in people by underlining individual strengths, then by inviting them to work together.” Robert Calame, Counsellor in Aggression Replacement Training
“AST changed my classroom and my practice. It helps students develop self-esteem, a‘can-do’ attitude, and real working-world skills – negotiation, compromise, and collaboration.” Gail Klinck, Middle School Teacher, Massey Vanier High School, Eastern Townships School Board, Quebec
